Welcome to Hymns & Home!

I’m so glad you’re here! I’m Melissa, blogger at Hymns & Home, wife, mama to 3, and professional church musician. I am saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Modern cottage style, thrifting, vintage, fresh flowers, and a good diy project make me smile, along with ironstone china and just about anything blue and white. Oh, and I love a good robust hymn tune played on the organ!

I don’t actually live in a country cottage, but I like to live like I do! I truly believe you can create a home you love no matter where you live – even a cozy country cottage in the middle of a busy city!

Here are a few fun facts:

  • I am married to a very patient, intelligent Christian man. He doesn’t like the internet spotlight so he doesn’t get mentioned on here much, but you should know that he is quite the handyman and gardener and has a great eye for finding balance in design. The projects that happen in our home almost always involve him in some capacity and I’m truly grateful to have him as a partner in our home endeavors.
  • I’m a professional church musician – I play the piano and the organ. Though I’m a stay-at-home-mom I do still play for church once every few weeks.
  • We picked out our house shortly before we got married. It was in need of a lot of TLC and updating, but I truly believe it was specifically placed into our lives. You can read the story of how we found our home here.
  • Our first major house project was NOT what we had in mind – yikes!
  • I hope you find this blog to be inspiring, encouraging, and helpful! Just remember – we are all living very real, sometimes messy, lives. No one’s life actually looks like a magazine!
